Japanese thoughts

My favorite Kanji-優

The Kanji 優 has one “onyomi” (Chinese) reading and two “kunyomi (Japanese) readings which are as below:

Onyomi -yuu, Kunyomi – yasa(shii), sugu(reru).

“Yasashii” is an adjective and means “gentle” and “Sugureru” means “to excel”.

Due to the nice meanings associated with this kanji, “yuu” (優)is a pretty common name in Japan.

The word “yasashii” written with a different kanji( “易しい”) means “easy” or “simple”. So I gave my site the name “yasashii” and chose the Kanji “優 ” as my logo.

Do you have a favorite Kanji?
